LandEnd just announced (first i've seen of it) that they are offering NO MINIMUMS through the END of the year! WOW.
I joked in an earlier post they were offering it through july because its a slow month but now they're SERIOUS! its gonna be an interesting fall for them. no online ordering that I can figure out on their site....which means they are going to take one unit orders over the phone (IE...lose TONS of money per single unit order) in the assumption they'll get big orders down the line.
The one marketing theory from my father that stuck with me for all these years is "a loss leader is a loss". granted, we seemed to have violated this with our
FREE t-shirt and
FREE hat but I would argue that these are 'samples'. We offer them as a way for folks to sample our product....like the gals in the mall in front of Panda Express (actually a customer of ours) with the taste of General Gao's Chicken. they give you a tiny sample, self-serve and efficiently for free.
the new head of LandsEnd business outfitters is offering to 'sell' product in an inefficient manner he knows will be at a loss! How psyched will the customer service team be helping that tough customer for 25 minutes to order ONE $20 polo!?! It seems like great customer service for the customer but I bet will end up being worse. their account exec's will not be happy and when they're not happy, your customer won't be happy....i guarantee that!
